Photo Albums Update

Well, the day has come!

Today we would like to announce the second update of the year 2014 - an update of the Photo Albums module! Some of you have been waiting for it for quite a long time. There are a lot of things in uCoz that we want to improve, and today it's PhotoAlbums' turn.

Well, the day has come!

Today we would like to announce the second update of the year 2014 - an update of the Photo Albums module! Some of you have been waiting for it for quite a long time. There are a lot of things in uCoz that we want to improve, and today it's PhotoAlbums' turn.

1. Page switchers on the main page of Photo Albums.

Now the main module page displays not only several latest photos, now it contains all photos of the module$CUT$, and you can view them by switching between the pages. To achieve this you need to go to Control Panel -> Customize Design -> Photo Albums -> Photo album main page, and paste the code $PAGE_SELECTOR$ or $PAGE_SELECTOR1$ where you want it to appear.

2. Update of the photo appearance template.

The appearance of photos has been completely redesigned and now looks very modern. The "Auto" option has been added to the "Number of columns" setting, so you don't need to worry that there will be too many or not enough photos in a row - there will be as many pictures as fit.

3. Update of the page with a full-sized photo and comments.

The page with a full-sized photo has also been redesigned, as well as the slider under a photo, which now looks differently and switches between photos smoothly.

4. A pop-up photo page with comments.

It's something no one probably expected - now the photo page can be also opened in a pop-up window instead of a new page, and comments, if there a lot of them, are loaded in the same window as you scroll down. It is also possible to browse photos without leaving the page. And if you copy the link from the address bar and share it, a user who clicks the link will see the same photo you were viewing. There is a new template for this page, named "Photo page in a pop-up window", as well as a style sheet, with the help of which you can edit the appearance of the page.

By default this feature will be enabled. If you want to disable it, you need to remove the checkmark for the option "Display the photo page in Lightbox". It will work in all modern browsers, in Internet Explorer - starting from version 10. In old browsers and browser versions a user will be redirected to the page with the photo and comments instead of opening a pop-up window.

That's it for today. We hope you like the update and we'll have even more motivation to keep improving the system.

New System Templates

This update was promised some time ago and many of our users have been waiting for it since then. 28 new free designs have been added to the default set!

This update was promised some time ago and many of our users have been waiting for it since then. 28 new free designs have been added to the default set! And these are not ordinary templates, they are responsive (templates that adjust to the resolution of your screen, including mobile devices)$CUT$!

Let's have a look at some of the new templates (clickable):

The templates are available in a number of categories (cinema, business, games, education, fashion, medicine etc.), but after minor customization can be used on websites of any theme.
The designs were developed both by our designers and freelancers, including Denis Antropov and Natalia Gzoim. We would like to thank them for the great ideas and solutions! Even within the limits of standard templates the designers managed to make each template unique and memorable, and the HTML developers implemented the ideas - hats off to them too. Now the templates are awaiting their ultimate test - working on the websites of uCoz users.
Remember, you can select a template in Common Settings or via the Control Panel top bar:

I would like to note that new templates will be added further (the next batch of 10 templates is already awaiting its turn), while old and outdated designs will be gradually deleted (they will still be supported, so don't worry, you won't lose anything).

As for responsiveness, we'll need to make some system modifications first, because now it may be a hard task to use some modules from a mobile phone (e.g. to post entries). We can assure you that we are going in this direction!

We live in the age of the "camera in everyone’s pocket” and with more than 2.5 billion camera phones in use we are entering a new dynamic era around image creation and content according to Bob Lisbon from Luminate.

This can be broken into three phases as we enter the age of visual culture and language.

Phase One: Massive increase in photo creation

This can be broken into three phases as we enter the age of visual culture and language.

Phase One: Massive increase in photo creation

Ten percent of photos taken by humankind took place in the last 12 months.$CUT$

Phase Two: The Rise of Image Centric Social Networks

Photos are becoming the "universal language”. The fastest growing social media networks are not surprisingly Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram. These social networks are the names on everyone’s lips as they have embraced the visual medium and have made it easy to upload and share images and photos online.

Phase Three: Images become Interactive

Pinterest is one of the first platforms that allows you to interact with static images and Luminate’s image apps (which are used by more than 100 million consumers) is also an example.

So how and why should you use images in your business communications, marketing and social networks? 6 Reasons Why Images are Important, If you have an online store, issue press releases or even just have a Facebook business "page”, then here are 6 reasons to publish images and photos as part of your business marketing tactics:

Articles with images get 94% more total views

Including a Photo and a video in a press release increases views by over 45%

60% of consumers are more likely to consider or contact a business when an image shows up in local search results

In an ecommerce site, 67% of consumers say the quality of a product image is "very important” in selecting and purchasing a product

In an online store, customers think that the quality of a products image is more important than product-specific information (63%), a long description (54%) and ratings and reviews (53%)

Engagement rate on Facebook for photos averages 0.37% where text only is 0.27% (this translates to a 37% higher level of engagement for photos over text)

Let's Create Responsive Website & Take Advantage

Responsive design is a web design and development technique that creates a site or system that reacts to the size of a user’s screen. Responsive design will optimise a user’s browsing experience by creating a flexible and responsive web page, optimised for the device that is accessing it.

There are following advantages of this:

• Increasing your reach to tablet and mobile audiences
• Increase sales and conversion rates
• Consolidate your analytics and reporting
• Increase your visibility in search engines$CUT$
• Save time and cost on mobile development

• Save time and cost on site management
• Enhance user's offline browsing experience

So the summary is that responsive design allows you to stay ahead of the trend. As the demand for media rich mobile internet and apps is burgeoning, several important implications must be addressed; development and maintenance costs, visibility in search engines and better conversion rates. It is these factors combined with a unified approach to design that will be beneficial for all stakeholders.

With the increase in Tablet sales and smartphone device use exploding, responsive design is key to keeping up ahead of your competitors and establishing market share; content consumption on mobile devices will only continue to balloon as 2013 progresses.

The Evolution of Indian eCommerce

What we have seen in past 3-4 years is a brisk risk of a market facilitator for any producer-consumer market i.e. ecommerce, more specifically Online Retail.

Recently Forrester published a new report on ‘The Evolution of Global ecommerce Markets’, which highlighted how global ecommerce markets are evolving, analyzing how markets$CUT$ are shifting from an early stage to the one in which consumers spend lavishly online and buy across a wide variety of categories. It was noted that markets tend to go through framework of four phases as they reach the stage of well-developed ecommerce market. Those four phases can be identified as following:

Phase 1: Connecting and Entertaining
Phase 2: eBusiness Basics
Phase 3: Comparable Goods Purchases
Phase 4: Subjective Goods Purchases

In India according to IAMAI about 150 million people are ready to get onto the e-commerce way of shopping based on parameters like income, education and occupation of households but still the number of people transacting online in India were less than 10 million in 2011 (Source: Avendus).

Some features of etail which are attracting consumers to buy online in India are availability of product, competitive price/discounts, and convenience but Ecommerce in India has still a long way to go and can be viewed as process of natural evolution in total, where multiple factors are favoring it slowly and steadily for a high potential consumer industry in future but don’t miss out the challenges which are also many.

This information is packaged into a cookie and sent to your Web browser which stores it for later use.
Session Cookies - These are created temporarily in your browser's subfolder while you are visiting a website. Once you leave the site, the session cookie is deleted.

Persistent Cookies - These cookies remain in your browser's subfolder and are activated again once you visit the website that created that particular cookie. A persistent cookie remains in the browser's subfolder for the duration period set within the cookie's file.

Hope you enjoyed eating these Web Cookies :-)

Want Top Search Engine Ranking?

Do you really want top search engine rankings - Just add meta tags and your website will magically rise to the top, right? Wrong. Meta tags are one piece in a large algorithmic puzzle that major search engines look at when deciding which results are relevant to show users who have typed in a search query.

While there is still some debate about which meta tags remain useful and important to search engines, meta tags definitely aren't a magic solution to gaining rankings in Google, Bing, Yahoo, or elsewhere – so let's kill that myth right at the outset. However, meta tags help tell search engines and users what your site is about, and when meta tags are implemented incorrectly...

However, meta tags help tell search engines and users what your site is about, and when meta tags are implemented incorrectly$CUT$, the negative impact can be substantial and heartbreaking.

Here's a code example of meta tags:

The Title Tag - <title>My website name</title>

The Description Meta Tag - meta name="description" content="Awesome Description Here"

The Keywords Meta Tag - meta name="keywords" content="realted keywords (comma separated)"

Told the spider when to come back - meta name="revisit-after" content="30 days"

Told the page to refresh - meta http-equiv="refresh" content="30"

Told the browser the distribution - meta name="distribution" content="web"

Told the page to redirect/refresh - meta http-equiv="refresh" content="x_seconds; url=http://www.yourhost.com/pagetosendto.html"

Robots Meta Tag - META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW", META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="INDEX, NOFOLLOW", META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, FOLLOW", META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="INDEX, FOLLOW"

The Charset Tag - meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"

Let's start doing meta tags on your website to make it search engine friendly. Want to increase this - create your FREE website with uCoz.com today!

It was Web 2.0

If you surf the Web design sites these days, you can't help but find references to Web 2.0. This is the new and revolutionary change that is sweeping the Web and allowing users to interact with the data available there in ways we never dreamed possible 10 years ago. But is this really the case? How much of Web 2.0 is just marketing hype and how much of it is actually new?

Originally in 2004, Web 2.0 was referred to as this idea of the "Web as a platform". The concept was such that instead of thinking of the Web as a place where browsers viewed data through small windows on the readers' screens...

The concept was such that instead of thinking of the Web as a place where browsers viewed data through small windows on the readers' screens$CUT$, the Web was actually the platform that allowed people to get things done. But this really didn't catch on. In fact, it's fairly hard to grasp what that really means.

Later people started thinking of Web 2.0 as the programming tools used to create the Web pages that were considered "cutting edge Web 2.0". This included AJAX and SOAP and other XML and JavaScript applications that allowed the readers to actually interact with the Web pages more like you would with an application on your desktop.

Now Web 2.0 is really starting to mean a combination of the technology (like AJAX) allowing the customers to actually interact with the information. Web 2.0 is starting to mean the situation where amateur writers and developers are able to create applications and Web sites that get more credibility than traditional news sources and software vendors. This combination of powerful JavaScript tools like AJAX enabling nearly anyone to contribute to and interact with the data that we are all working with is really what Web 2.0 is.

To understand it better, you are already using some application that is a form of Web 2.0. Some of the most popular examples are

Gmail

Google Maps

Flickr

YouTube

uCoz.com

Twitter

Digg

del.icio.us

So, actually it was/is Web 2.0, given us chance to get connected with each other. Thank you Web 2.0 :)

Over the course of your life, you embraced a number of different hobbies: football, video games, cards, art and others. But no one of them have changed our lives or brought as much satisfaction as the act of expression or writing. In almost too many ways to count, it can truly change the way we live our lives.
